On the 8N with a 6V Coil and a 12V setup, you need the 1-OHM resistor in addition to the OEM Ballast Resistor.
If you use the OEM 6V coil, you need to add an in-line ceramic 1-OHM resistor in the circuit -not shown in the 12V diagram below.
